“Table Manners”

This is one of our final concept ideas that we narrowed down from a list of 200 ideas. The idea is called “Table Manners”, and is for use in any home, and uses pressure pads and moisture sensors within a place mat, so that when the user rests his elbows on the place mat it teaches you manners, ordering you to remove them. Similarly if you spill your drink of drop your food it warns you of this.
In our first prototype for the “Table Manners” place mat we did not use any electronics and just showed its basic form and how it would work. In the image you can see a black strip of foam which represents the pressure pads, which triggers a process, which tells the user to remove their elbows. On the right hand side is a glass holder which around it has moisture detectors warning you of any spillages.
